  • Weights

    Club Overview

    Maple Leaf offers residents and renters an enjoyable and uplifting Free Weights program for 45 minutes, twice a week. Every Wednesday and Sunday mornings (November to March) from 7:45 to 8:30, approximately 80-100 people gather on the Sundeck overlooking the beautiful big lake and join together in a carefully planned and stimulating program. Residents and renters are welcome to join in at any time during the season. If the weather is not suitable, the program is held in the CanAm Center. Led by two volunteer residents, both retired physical education teachers, the program is designed to strengthen muscles, stretch tendons and ligaments, and retain and build flexibility and balance so important for seniors. All these benefits will improve a person’s physical capabilities to play for example, golf, tennis, bocce, lawn bowling and shuffleboard. Chairs are provided should a person need to use them for balance. Oh, we have a lot of fun too!

    Participants are advised to use weights suitable to their physical capabilities while challenging them to make the effort to tone their bodies. Participants are also encouraged to wear ankle weights to enhance the benefits of the program. While the Sunday and Wednesday programs are similar, the Wednesday program is accompanied by suitable music, featuring familiar songs the participants often like to sing along.

    A modest donation of $8.00 for the whole season is requested. The funds are used to purchase any required equipment (eg. sound system) and provide a year-end reception for all the hardy volunteers who help out, such as carting chairs from the CanAm Center out to the Sundeck and back, every session.

    The Free Weights leaders believe everyone at Maple Leaf should be on a weights program of some kind. Come on out and go home feeling energized!
